Martha Martha Martha!

It was bound to happen sooner or later.  I celeb spotted Martha Stewart during her book signing at Grand Central Station.

Of course I had to join in with the other folks taking pictures (there were about 25 of them), or my sister would just not believe me.  So I brazenly walked in front of them and took out my little smartphone and snapped a shot.

Naturally someone else brazenly stepped in front of me to take a shot as well.  I had to laugh - Martha paparazzi!

My DH wanted to know why I didn't go up and meet her.  The reason is simple.  It was not in my budget!  It was, after all, a book signing and I would have had to buy her book.  Actually I'm not even sure which one it was - baking, cooking, crafting, sewing - but someone mentioned it was over $60.  Too much for my pocketbook especially when you consider that my mother taught me to bake, cook, craft and sew.

Maybe I'll get it one day if I see it at one of the street vendor's book tables.

At any rate, I actually felt a bit sorry for this multi-millionaire.  She looked perfectly fit, tanned, and made-up, but not very happy about having to sit at a tiny little table in the corner of Grand Central Station.  And she has to do it for 2 days - during rush hour.  It didn't seem to be an ideal location.

Of course, to make the most of it, she was filming the signing for something or another - the little disclaimer posters were posted here and there.  So she'll get the $ from her signing, the publicity for doing it at Grand Central Station and the film clips to be used in more programs and promotional spots.

All in all, not a bad days work, I guess.

Me?  Well, no one wanted an autograph for "Haiku Seasons", so I just went to catch my train.  Maybe next time.

My New eBook - Haiku Seasons

Yes, I actually took all those haikus and put them in an ebook - with pictures!  So check out my new book for the Kindle on Amazon.com - Haiku Seasons.

It was a lot of fun putting this book together and I think it is a nice way to end a year-long challenge.  Since my camera isn't one of those super tricked-out high-tech cameras, I used photos from FreeDigitalPhoto.net - and I must say, they didn't disappoint!

The photography selections were amazing and it was hard to choose which photo best reflected the scene I was describing in the haiku, but the selections were made and I think they really are true to the spirit of the poetry.

Haiku Seasons is available for purchase - or you can read it for free and check it out with Amazon Prime.

It was a wonderful experience to spend some time each day just observing nature and expressing it in haiku.  I hope you have as much fun reading it as I had writing it.

Winter Haiku VII

is that a snowflake drifting down to touch my nose? no, just more cold rain

And this concludes the Winter Haiku!

Thank you all for your lovely thoughts about my seasonal haikus.  For those who are still wondering WTF!?!?  The haiku started last Spring because of a challenge from my brother (no surprise there - I always seem to get into little challenges of bizarreness with my brother!), he said it couldn't be done.  Since he never said it had to be great haiku worthy of the likes of Matsuo Basho, I knew it I could do it!

Of course, the hardest part was talking to my brother in haiku for the entire week at the change of seasons.  Too wild and crazy, right?  What can I say?  I like silly fun!

And it was fun for me - and I hope for you as well.  The best part was really looking at nature during each day of the new season and trying to find that one thing that really defined the day, then expressing it in a haiku.  Somedays it was something as small as a Canadian geese sitting and watching the rain fall around it while it sat seemingly comfy and warm with it's fluffed out feathers.  Another day it was the winds whipping across the Ice Pond.

Believe me, after spending the day in NYC transit, a Manhattan building encased in concrete and an office filled with computers, it was a wonderful thing to take the time to look at nature and just contemplate.

Give it a try sometime - it's totally worth it.

Yay!  Haiku week!!!
